In the town of Xiangcheng, Old Master Ye of the Ye family passed away. Before returning to her hometown with the coffin, Madam Ye planned to marry off her beautiful concubine-born son, Ye Miao, to a rural landlord as a concubine to vent years of resentment.
To thwart her plans, Ye Miao feigned having leprosy, leading the hurried Madam Ye to abandon the idea and kick Ye Miao and his dad out of the house. Penniless, Ye Miao took his dad to Wuligou Village to seek help from his uncle. However, his uncle also wanted him to marry the landlord from the neighboring village as a concubine!
Determined to end such schemes once and for all, Ye Miao decided to marry someone of his choosing. He set his sights on Qin Jin, the fourth son of the Qin family next door. The man possessed immense strength and could single-handedly throw his uncle out the door! However, Qin Jin’s gaze toward him remained unusually pure, with no trace of desire despite Ye Miao’s striking looks.
Just as Ye Miao was feeling at his wit’s end, an exhausted him accidentally fell into the river while washing clothes. As he struggled hopelessly, strong arms encircled his waist and lifted him to safety in full view of the crowd.
With his summer clothes soaked and clinging to his body, Ye Miao looked at his rescuer in fear and helplessness, only to find Qin Jin staring back at him.
—
What?! Saving a young man means you have to marry him?!
Qin Jin was utterly confused. He was straight! No matter how attractive this Ye Miao was, he was still… a boy!
But Qin Jin understood Ye Miao’s plight. Feeling overwhelmed, he secretly called Ye Miao to the foot of a mountain. Seeing the other’s apprehensive and numb expression, watching the hope in his eyes slowly give way to despair, Qin Jin finally forced a smile and said:
“So, when should we get married?”

Later.
Qin Jin: Hehe, this is actually pretty sweet!
